FORESIGHT THROUGH TECHNOLOGY & EXPERTISE ON THE GROUND

OUR BLUEPRINT FOR WORLD-CLASS TRAILS

1. Define

1.1 COMMUNITY & STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

Every great trail starts with listening. We collaborate with stakeholders to define community needs, gather insights through online user surveys, and document both qualitative and quantitative measures. These findings form the foundation of every project.

1.2 PRECISION TERRAIN ANALYSIS

Using high resolution LiDAR data, we analyse terrain to understand slope, aspect, and natural constraints. This data-driven approach identifies the most suitable corridors for sustainable trail placement, ensuring the right trail is designed for the right place.

1.3 WATERSHED & FLOOD SIMULATION

Water shapes every trail. By modelling local catchments, drainage paths, and flood behaviour, we predict how water interacts with the site. This allows us to determine optimal trail alignments, define crossing requirements, and design for long-term stability and minimal erosion.

2. DESIGN

2.1TRAIL ROUTING & SHAPING

We translate data into design. Trails are routed to suit the natural terrain and intended user experience, aligned with Australian and IMBA standards for rating and sustainability. Each alignment is optimised for flow, drainage, and risk management.

Traditional elevation profiles show where a trail goes. FlowLogic reveals how it rides. Using physics-based simulation, we assess rider speed, exertion, and forces through the trail to help tune flow, check jump spacing and safety, and manage effort on climbs and longer rides.

Optional 3D design refines curves, jumps, and berms to match the target speed, gradient, and skill level, helping reduce guesswork and align construction with design intent.

2.2 LIFELIKE VISUALISATION

Our visualisation process helps clients and communities see the trail before it’s built. We produce high quality 3D renders, fly through videos, and interactive online models enhanced with realistic terrain, vegetation, and structures. For deeper engagement, trail designs can even be imported into a video game for interactive exploration and promotion.

2.3 ON-SITE GROUND TRUTHING

On-site validation, allows refinements to be made directly in the field. Alignments can be adjusted for vegetation, microtopography, and soil conditions, with trails flagged to guide construction.

3. Deliver

3.1 CONSTRUCTION PLANS

We deliver a construction-ready package that turns design into reality. Each plan includes 2D diagrams, satellite overlays, and GPS traces for precise construction set-out. For a higher level of control, elevation profiles, cross sections, and material volume estimates can also be provided. Optional schematic trail maps in vector format, for trail maps and print media.

3.2 Costings

A successful trail network requires a realistic financial roadmap from day one. We provide accurate construction cost and timeline estimates tailored to your specific trail type and terrain. Crucially, we also deliver long term asset maintenance forecasts. This ensures land managers can budget effectively for the ongoing time and resources required to keep the trail system operating at its intended quality, flow standards, and risk management requirements.

3.3 INTERACTIVE PROJECT WEBPAGE

Each project is presented through a custom webpage — a central hub for all design outputs. It includes the project brief, findings, visualisations, maps, and downloadable GIS data, providing a seamless experience for stakeholders throughout planning, approval, and construction.

TRAIL AUDITING

  • COMPLIANCE & SAFETY CHECKS ON EXISTING TRAILS

Our audit service ensures existing trails are sustainable, well-maintained, and compliant with Australian Standards. We assess grading accuracy, signage consistency, and identify potential hazards or maintenance needs. Trails are categorised by style and difficulty, with concise summaries outlining key findings and recommendations, giving land managers a clear roadmap for managing risk and planning future improvements.
